Opening Words from Sun. June 13 by Brett Bartrum

When I asked to give opening words this week I was surprised by the theme being revelation. Growing up Mormon we heard a lot about revelation as it’s what the church was founded on. In Mormonism, revelation is communication from God to man. They believe that Jesus Christ and God spoke to Joseph Smith directly in person to start the church.

Since I’m not Mormon anymore I don’t want to spend much time going into that.

I looked up the definition of revelation to see if there was a better form of revelation that I could relate to now.

Definition of revelation

1a: an act of revealing or communicating divine truth, something that is revealed by God to humans

2a: an act of revealing to view or making known something that is revealed especially : an enlightening or astonishing disclosure shocking revelations

I think I covered the first definition so I would now like to cover the 2nd. Those who know me will understand that I have a love for Science and technology. I was going to talk about blackholes and gravitational waves but there were some more recent exciting revelations that came to light this month.

The revelation that I’m referring to is the US Navy’s confirmation of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena or also known as UFO’s! The US Navy has released footage of objects that defy our current known laws of physics. Not much is known about the incidents other than the confirmed video footage from multiple jets, human observation and ship radar data. You can now download the footage directly from the US Navy’s website and view the footage for yourself.

Even President Obama offered a statement on the matter that I will now quote: “What is true, and I’m actually being serious here, is that there is footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are,” end quote. Obama on UFO videos: ‘We don’t know exactly what they are’ (

Congress is expected to get a more detailed report on UAPs later this month. I hope for more exciting revelations. An upcoming UFO report to Congress creating lots of buzz – ABC News (

I’m excited for the possibilities of what further investigation may reveal. I am a scientist, and I am hoping for more scientific data and studies on the matter. I will say that I’m in the camp of it’s never aliens….until it is.
