September 19, 10:30 a.m. The Majesty of the Osage
Speaker: Jim Duncan, past director of the Missouri State Museum, anthropologist, archaeologist, author, teacher, and part Osage and Cherokee ancestry. TWA Host – Elaine Miller.
When Europeans came to Missouri, it was already occupied by other cultures, principally, the Osage. Duncan will review a brief history of the Osage. Their unique oral traditions will be explored in relationship to their environment and the artifact record. Forced to move from their homeland beginning in 1808, they have managed to surmount the hardships of forced acculturation and retained their identity. Becker Room.
