Ethicyclists’ Katy Trail Ride to a Winery: The Daniel Boone Ride

October 15, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

The Ethicyclists’ final adventure of the biking season is called “The Daniel Boone Ride” since we will be starting in Defiance, site of the Boone Home, and pedal to his and Rebecca’s original graves in Marthasville. The ride is Saturday, October 15 at 9:30 a.m. We’ll first ride on the Katy Trail to Dutzow for lunch at the Blumenhof Winery and then proceed to Marthasville. The roundtrip from Defiance to Dutzow is 30 miles and to Marthasville, 37 miles. Riders can choose either option or park in Augusta and do the round trip to Dutzow of 16 miles and 23 miles to Marthasville. The weather should be nice and leaves will be showing off their colors as we have an easy, flat ride on the Katy Trail. The Blumenhof Winery has outdoor seating for lunch and wine for purchase. Don’t imbide too much of the “Original Cyn” wine though, since some of us will venture on to Marthasville to see the Boone gravesite. After returning to Defiance, we can visit the Daniel Boone stone house that was built by his son Nathan. So let’s meet at 9:15 a.m. in the parking area at the Defiance trailhead and start riding at 9:30 a.m. on October 15. We should reach Augusta by about 10:15 a.m. and Dutzow at 11 a.m. for lunch. A rain backup date is Saturday, October 22, at the same time. Don’t forget the usual: water, sunscreen, helmet, and extra tube. Call Joe Corrigan at 314-753-5538 or japplecorr@att.net for more information.
