Ethicyclist Ride to a Defiance Winery

October 21, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm

RESCHEDULED from Saturday, October 14, to Saturday, Oct. 21, we’ll have the seventh and final ride of the cycling season. Traditionally, we have gone to a winery for the last ride of the year and I discovered a very nice winery off Hwy 94, the Defiance Ridge Vineyards. The 42 acres of rolling hills has the vineyard, lake, and a garden landscape. From the patio restaurant at the historic farmhouse, there are beautiful views of the Missouri River Valley. I sampled two dry red wines and they were delicious. It’s not far at all from the Katy Trail and is 8.4 miles from our starting point at the Busch Greenway Trail Head parking lot. Just put this trailhead in your map function and it will direct you there. The turnoff is exit 11 on I-64 West right after the Daniel Boone Bridge in the Missouri Research Park. We’ll leave at 10 a.m. and have a nice leisurely ride down the Busch Greenway Trail to the Katy Trail and then to the winery in Defiance. It’s usually crowded for lunch on Saturdays, but we’ll arrive at 11 a.m. for their opening. The ride is about 17 miles total and is shorter than our earlier ones. The rain date is the following Saturday, October 21 at the same time. Don’t forget the usual: helmet, extra tube, sunscreen, cash/credit card.
