A visit to the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary to hear, see, and learn about the trumpeter swans that visit the Mississippi Flyway in the winter in flocks.  We will be “guided” by our friend and bird enthusiast Brenda Hente, who says we may also be lucky enough to spy some short-eared owls and, weather permitting, a beautiful sunset.

Gather at the Ethical Society parking lot at 3:15 PM, to carpool to the sanctuary, which is located in Alton. Participants should dress for the weather.  It is always windy out there and it will most likely be cold.  Don’t forget binoculars.  We will probably stay until 6:00 PM or so. Families with children are welcome.  (Note: The Visitor’s Center will be closed, so bathroom facilities will not be readily available.)
