The First Friday Forum for August will feature Ray Preston whose presentation is titled “Breaking News & Faking News” (or Reflections on Journalism & Reporting After 34 Years in the News Biz). Ray is a member of the Ethical Society’s Board of Trustees and an Emmy-award-winning reporter who retired last April after 24 years at KMOV-TV. He will be taking a closer look at the trends in television news coverage that he experienced during his career. Some are encouraging, some are disturbing. Some of the best stories are those that never make it on the air and into the newscasts. During his career, Preston interviewed everyone from grandmothers to gang members, convicted killers to committed activists, priests to politicians to pornographers. He waded through waist-deep floodwaters, chased tornadoes in Oklahoma and put on the pads and stood in goal-stopping hockey pucks just to get a story. This is the last First Friday Forum, and it promises to be outstanding. Friday, August 6 at 7 p.m.
