Ethical Navigators Weekly Update – September 15
Summary:
- Updated: We had lots of fun at our outing yesterday at Bob Heck’s house.
- Updated: We had a good General Meeting this morning, learning about trajectory, designing pumpkin-launching machines, and having fun with an obstacle course.
- Updated: Our plan for our October Outing is a Pumpkin Chunkin-style competition on October 26.
- New: Our next General Meeting will be October 20 at 9 am.
- New: Our new Council Meeting will be October 13 at 9:30 am in the Green Room of the Nursery School.
Outings
September 14
Thank you very much to the Heck family for hosting us yesterday for a pool party/grilling/camping end-of-summer event at their house. Many of our families attended, and we had a lot of fun.

October 26
We have initial plans to go to a Pumpkin Farm to pick out pumpkins, then go to a member’s property to have a Pumpkin Chunkin-style competition for launching the pumpkins. Lance Finney is working on the details of the event, and more information will come out later.
November
We have tentative plans to visit Scott Air Force Base. Bob Heck and Krystal White have reached out to contacts at the base and found that it is a possibility.
Another November idea is a Senior-specific backpack outing, but that has not yet been planned.
General Meetings
September 15
We had a good General Meeting this morning, which was largely in preparation for the Pumpkin Outing in October.
- The Stargazers ran through an obstacle course for the first half of the meeting. For the last half, they learned about angles of launch and trajectories of flight using rubber band launchers. These lessons will come in handy for throwing pumpkins. Many of the children applied their expertise gained from Angry Birds.
- The Juniors and Seniors worked on models and designs for their pumpkin throwing devices.
- Additionally, the Seniors discussed advancement plans, upcoming fall events, and fall backpacking planning.

October 20
We will have a general meeting on Sunday, October 20 at the Ethical Society, at 9 am. We have not chosen a location yet. We will use this meeting to build our Pumpkin Chunkin machines for the October outing.
Organization
October 13 Council Meeting
Our next Council meeting will be 9:30 am on October 13 in the Nursery School Green Room. All are welcome to observe and comment.
