  • Update: We had a productive Council Meeting this morning.

  • Join the Council for a meeting on December 3 if you want to help plan for 2018 or to be on the Council.

November 18: Foodbank
Our November Outing will be a service project at the Foodbank. The shift is from 10 AM – 1 PM. Folks should meet at the Foodbank (70 Corporate Woods Drive, Bridgeton) inside in the Volunteer area around 9:45 – 9:50. The Foodbank staff will do background information about the Foodbank, its mission, and safety protocols starting at 10; we don’t want anyone to miss that part.

Folks can bring food to eat during breaks and we HIGHLY recommend they do that. Either bring a snack and plan on eating lunch after the shift is over OR bring a small lunch to eat at the 11:30 break.

Children must be 5 years old to participate.

RSVPs are now full. All 20 spots have been claimed. We will not be able to get a larger allotment this year. If you are interested in going, you can ask to be on the waiting list in case a family has to back out. If the event is successful this year, we might do it again next year, with more slots.

December 10 (tentative): Year-End Celebration
Please join us on Sunday, December 10 for our year-end celebration. We tentatively plan to have this event at the Ethical Society after Platform on the 10th, but the room reservation hasn’t been locked down yet. We intend to have a potluck lunch, to hand out awards from the year, to reflect on the fun and learning from the year, and to play some games. We will also have shirts, hats, and bandanas for sale.

We will confirm the time, date, and location soon.

Parents: Please review the Badge Book and let Haley Pepper know if your children have earned any badges outside of Navigators activities this year. Also, there is a new badge for Endurance and Bravery – please let Haley know if your children have done something special this year to earn that badge.

General Meetings
November 12
The General Meeting will be at 9:45 am at the Ethical Society on November 12. We have a tentative plan to do a service project at the Society to thank the Society for being our sponsor. We will finalize the plan this week.

We are not planning on having a General Meeting in December. Enjoy your holidays!

November Council Meeting
This morning, six members of the Council met in the Ethical Society or by phone:
Kyle Crawford (Junior Co-Leader), Lance Finney (Communications), Andy Ford (Senior Co-Leader), Mike Jones (Stargazer Co-Leader), Haley Pepper (Co-Leader), and Ellen Wilson (Senior Co-Leader).

The meeting was mostly focused on the details of upcoming meetings and outings as described above. In addition, we discussed the following topics:

  • Badges – The Leaders will work with Pepper to ensure which Navigators have earned their triangles.
  • Leadership – Two of our founding Council members will step down from their responsibilities in the new year. Lance Finney has led our Council Meetings, kept an eye on the calendar to make sure meetings and events happened, and been the primary point for communication. Ellen Wilson has been a Leader for several different age groups, and she has served as QuarterMaster for several years, being the first one in and the last one out at our camping outings.
    • We will need new members of the Council to help fill these and other responsibilities. If you have any interest and ability in administrative planning, youth leadership, scouting, etc., please join us on the Council.
We will also need help in roles like maintaining the list of registered Navigators and shopping for food, so please offer to help if you can contribute in those areas.
    • Please let us know if you have other specialized skills and experience that we could use that we haven’t previously considered.
  • Jamboree – We will be the hosting Chapter for a National Navigators USA Jamboree next year. Plan for a fun weekend in July (date not set yet), and the chance to meet other Navigators from around the country. We probably will be asked to host some families, provide household items for activities, and provide local expertise. Expect much more about this in 2018.It was proposed that the outgoing Council members form a Jamboree Committee to help organize our participation in the event, while allowing the continuing Council to proceed on normal Council work. We may put this into practice.
  • End of Year – Our Chapter organizes on the calendar year, and the year is almost up! We plan to have our 2018 Planning Meeting on Sunday, December 3 (See below). If you are interested in helping to plan outings or join the Council for 2018, please consider joining us for that meeting.

Year-End Planning Meeting
The Council is planning to meet on December 3 to make plans for next year. This meeting usually takes several hours as we discuss strategy for the upcoming year, make tentative plans for outings and general meetings, and discuss changes to the Council.

Please attend if you are currently on the Council or just want to contribute to the discussion.

Additionally, some Council positions will be available, so please consider joining the leadership team, and please come to the meeting if you are doing so.
