Outings

February 15
Our next outing will be on February 15 to see the Eagles and Lock and Dam in Alton. We will start out at 9 am at the Audubon Center at Riverlands (the Center opens at 8, so feel free to show up early to learn about birds that use the area’s wetlands). After the Audubon Center, we will cross the river to visit the National Great Rivers Museum in Alton. This museum is connected to the Lock and Dam, and we plan to ascend to the top of the Locks to get a great view of the Mississippi River.

All of these stops are free. Bring your binoculars to see the migrating birds!

Jim Jordan is the organizer for this event.

March 22
Our March outing will be to visit the Old Courthouse in Downtown St. Louis. We will probably have an afternoon outing so that families who are interested could combine our event with the Night at the Museum that evening under the Arch. Lance Finney and/or Mitch Harden will plan this outing.

April 19
Ellen Wilson will plan an Earth Day activity for our April outing.

May 17
May will bring our first camping outing of the year. Our tentative plan is to camp at Klondike Park in St. Charles County, along the Katy Trail. For this camping outing, we will have bicycling outings during the day.

June 21
We will camp again in June. Our tentative plan is to camp at Little Grassy Lake Campground & Marina in Southern Illinois. You may recognize that name because we had planned to camp there in September 2013, but those plans fell through.

General Meetings

February 9
We had a fun General Meeting this morning at the Ethical Society. Eight Stargazers, seven Junior Navigators, and two Senior Navigators met to set goals for the year and to learn about eagles in preparation for our trip to Alton next weekend.

Some pictures are up on Facebook and Google+.

March 16
Our next General Meeting will be at 9am at the Ethical Society on March 16.

Organization

February 23 Activity Faire

As we did last year, we will have a table at the Ethical Society’s Activity Faire. This year’s Faire is scheduled for the afternoon after the Platform on February 23. We plan to have two activities:

  • Senior Navigators and some Junior Navigators will teach about 10 essential safety items you should always have with you in the outdoors.
  • The rest of the Junior Navigators and the Stargazers will sell some make-your-own trail mix. We will have bins of peanuts, raisins, etc. with scoops, and we will let people make bags of trail mix for a donation.

We hope to be able to have the youth of the Navigators run these booths with adult supervision, showing the ability of our children. To do this, we need your families to commit to help out. Please let us know if you can help! Thanks to the families that have already responded.

We will also give out flyers with information about our group and the activities we do.

March 9 Council Meeting

Our next Council meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am on March 9 in the Nursery School Green Room. All are welcome to observe and comment.
