Outings

February 13-15: Cabin Camping
We will be winter cabin camping at Camp Wyman near Six Flags. Haley Pepper and the rest of the Council have been making plans for the weekend, and we have lots of ideas and activities:

  • Star gazing (please let us know if you could bring a telescope)
  • Service Project
  • Science Project
  • Archery
  • Pioneer Skills
  • Night Hike
  • Cold Weather gear and clothing

The exact combination of activities will depend on actual weather conditions and the group’s interest.

Camp Wyman has insulated heated cabins with attached bathrooms. We plan to sleep 10 to 12 people per cabin (bring your sleeping bags), and we will cook our own food (please bring a camp stove, if you have one).

We got a discount on staying in the cabins for two nights, so these are our prices (including group meals) for those staying both Friday and Saturday night: $30/adult and $25/child

Our discount wasn’t as good for those staying only one night: $24/adult and $19/child

Note 1: If you want to join us and have difficulty with the financial contribution, please let us know so that we can try to help.
Note 2: The prices above are for the group dorm-like rooms. If you want more privacy, please let us know, and we will find out what the additional cost might be.

Thanks to those who responded to the email request this past week for tentative RSVPs. We will likely have around 20 people from perhaps eight families, based on what we have heard so far. If you haven’t responded yet and are still interested, please let us know.

If your initial RSVP was conditional on pricing and planning details, please let us know if you are still planning to join us.

March
Our tentative outing plan for March is a trip to Jefferson Barracks. We intend to have a hike, perform a service project (perhaps cleaning some of the gravesites), and perhaps visit the Civil War Museum. We do not have a specific weekend picked out yet. Ellen Wilson has volunteered to organize this event.

April
Our tentative outing plan is a visit to a Fire Station to learn about civics and fire safety. We do not have a specific weekend picked out yet. Haley Pepper has volunteered to organize this event.

May
Our tentative outing plan is a camping weekend at or near Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park, including a visit to the Civil War battlesite at Fort Davidson State Historic Site. We do not have a specific weekend picked out yet. Andy Ford has volunteered to organize this event.

General Meetings

February 8
At our first General Meeting of the new year this morning, we first reviewed the plan for the year and the badges, etc that we can earn.

After that, Mr. Heck taught an archery skills and safety class, using rubber-band-based archery toys to practice. It was a lot of fun.

Some pictures are available on Facebook and Google+, and a video is available on YouTube:

February 22
After our outing, we will start our new normal schedule – incorporating with SEEK as one of the 10am options. We had hoped to meet on the first Sunday of every month, but the first Sundays of the next several months were already full. So, we are meeting on the last Sunday of each month in the Spring, starting with February 22. We are on the SEEK calendar for February 22, March 29, and April 26.

Organization

March Council Meeting

Our next Council meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am on March 22 in the Nursery School Green Room. All are welcome to observe and comment.

Registration

We have registered several families for the year the last two weekends, but we need registrations for other families, too. Please talk to Lance Finney or Tom Draney if you have not yet signed up but intend to. We have streamlined the paperwork for returning families.
