Ethical Navigators Weekly Update – August 6, 2017

Summary:

  • Plans solidifying for Eclipse viewing in August.
  • Initial plans in place for August and September outings.
  • Our next General Meeting will be August 20 at 9:45
  • Our next Council Meeting will be August 13 at 9:30.

Outings
August 21: Eclipse
We have a shelter reserved in Trail of Tears State Forest near Jonesboro, Illinois to be our base for viewing the great eclipse. In order to beat the crowds, we recommend that everyone leave early in the morning from St. Louis to have time to get through possible traffic (no one knows how traffic will be, but it’s better to be safe than sorry). We will plan to have activities and lunch at the shelter to fill time for early arrivers before the eclipse itself occurs (the partial eclipse will start around 9:52 am., and totality will last around 2.5 minutes at roughly 1:20 pm, weather willing).

Additionally, we might decorate Eclipse Glasses at the August General Meeting, both for fun, and to decrease the odds that the Navigators will look unsafely around the filters.

We will have more information about this as we get closer.

August 26: Service Project/Pool Party
Bob Heck has graciously offered to host us for a Pool Party in August. Additionally, we have been asked to help clean up the Ethical Woods. We are confirming plans to have a service project of mulching and/or clearing honeysuckle from the paths, followed by a refreshing party in the pool. More details to come.

September 23: Biking
We have tentative plans for a biking outing. Mike Jones will plan this. We will probably go to one of the nearby trails (Al Foster, Riverfront, Grant, Katy, River des Peres, etc.).

General Meetings
August 20
The General Meeting will be at 9:45 am at the Ethical Society on August 20. We will talk about the Eclipse coming up the next day.

Organization
August Council Meeting
Our next Council meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am on August 13 in the Nursery School Green Room. All are welcome to observe and comment.
