Ethical Navigators Weekly Update – August 27, 2017
Summary:
- Updated: Two groups had an amazing time watching the eclipse.
- Updated: We got a lot of good work done and had a lot of fun at the service project/pool party dual outing.
- Updated: Initial plans in place for September and October outings.
- New: Our next General Meeting will be September 13 at 9:45.

Outings
August 21: Eclipse
We had two groups enjoying the eclipse. Please send any more photos you have that you want us to share from these two groups.
Hillboro (photos)
Six Navigators families (and some relatives of one of the families) met at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, MO, to watch the total solar eclipse.
We were worried about clouds for much of the morning, but we had a perfect view of the corona for 2m 38s when the peak moment came.
The kids had a great time playing while waiting, and the adults enjoyed looking at the eclipse, whether through eclipse glasses, via projection, or through nice cameras.

Two Navigators families met at the original site in Southern Illinois and had a great time.
Let’s camp out for the next great eclipse! See you all in seven years!
August 26: Service Project/Pool Party
We met at the Ethical Society in the morning with shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows with the goal of spreading a huge pile of mulch over the trails and outdoor classroom of the Ethical Woods. 11 families showed up, making quick work of the task.
In the afternoon we went to the Heck house for a fun day of playing in the pool. Thanks, Bob!

September 23: Biking
We have tentative plans for a biking outing. We will go to a nearby park or trail to ride our bikes, and we will schedule this outing to be in the afternoon in order not to conflict with the Pedal the Cause fundraiser Add-on.
September 23 Add-on: Pedal the Cause
Pedal the Cause is a major fundraiser for cancer research, and the family of our member Lenore has asked us to join them in participating. We will not have a separate team there, but please let us know if you are interested, and we will pass your information onto Lenore’s family.
Reminder: An Add-on is an event that some families in Navigators might attend, but not an event for which we are having a formal presence. If you know of other events that might be fun for Navigators, please let us know, and we will advertise them and add them to our calendar.
October 20-22: Camping/Climbing
We would like to have our final camping trip of the year to be a climbing adventure at Pere Marquette SP in Illinois. Andy Ford will take the lead planning this.
General Meetings
September 17
The General Meeting will be at 9:45 am at the Ethical Society on September 17. This will be our first General Meeting since the Spring in conjunction with the SEEK program.

September Council Meeting
Our next Council meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am on September 10 in the Nursery School Green Room. All are welcome to observe and comment.
