Outings
April 22: Farming
Eight families gathered at the GROW exhibit at the St. Louis Science Center to learn about how our food is grown. We saw a tractor and combine, a cow, chickens, compost, worms, plants, and more as we learned about how humans and nature work together to provide our food.
Some photos are available on Facebook.
April 26-29 Add-on: FIRST Championship
St. Louis has hosted the world championships for FIRST Robotics for several years, and they are great opportunities to see children from around the country and the world who have but STEM thinking to use to build LEGO or metal/plastic robots (depending on the age group) to solve various problems. Admission to the competitions and pits are free. 2017 will be the last year for a while that St. Louis hosts this great opportunity to see international children excited about STEM.
May 6 Add-On: People’s Joy Parade
We will participate in the People’s Joy Parade with a float. The Navigators have created a banner for us to carry at our recent events, and we plan also have a truck (potentially with a trailer) to carry a tent and tired Navigators.
Please wear your shirts and sashes if you participate. Additionally, the overall theme of the parade is about protecting Missouri’s endangered species, so feel free to accessorize on that theme beyond the uniform.
The event starts at 1:11 pm officially, but we will have to gather earlier. More details will come soon. Kyle Crawford is planning this event, with assistance from Andy Ford.
Note: earlier emails had the date wrong.
Reminder: An add-on is an event that some families in Navigators might attend, but not an event for which we are having a formal presence. If you know of other events that might be fun for Navigators, please let us know, and we will advertise them and add them to our calendar.
May 19-21: Camping/Space/Mine
We intend to camp the weekend of May 19-21 in St. Francois State Park, combined with a visit to a Space Museum and possibly a mine tour and/or a visiting to a mining museum (the exact combination of museums and outdoor activity will depend on the weather – we’ll do more in museums if it’s a rainy weekend). We have a campsite reservation, and we will start asking for RSVPs soon. Kyle Crawford is planning this event.
June 23-25 (tentative): Camping/Sailing
We have tentative plans to camp near Carlyle Lake in central Illinois, with sailing on the lake during the day. Haley Pepper is planning this event.
July 21-23 (tentative): Camping/Floating
We have tentative plans to return to Meramec State Park for camping and floating. Andy For and Ellen Wilson are starting initial planning for this event.
