  • Update: We have the finalized flyer for camping the weekend of April 30th at Pere Marquette SP. Please RSVP!
  • We have add-ons for free and paid summer camps.
  • Update: We played games and learned camping skills at our General Meeting this morning.
  • Our next Council Meeting will be April 24 at 9:30.

April 29-May 1: Camping with Caves
We will go camping the final weekend of April at Pere Marquette SP. This site is close to St. Louis, so we should be able to get there easily. Planned activities include hiking, geology, geocaching, chess, etc.

Please see the flyer for more details. Please RSVP our email account by April 22 if you are planning to attend.

Free Recreation Camps: All Summer Add-on
The City of St. Louis offers free Playtime Recreation summer camps for children ages 5-18. The earlier camps start on June 6, and the latest ends on August 11. Some of the camps are age-restricted, and they vary in length and time of day.

Topics include Geocaching, Art, Sports, Music, Engineering, Cooking, Cheerleading, Fishing, etc.

More information and registration is available on the city’s website.

Reminder: An add-on is an event that some families in Navigators might attend, but not an event for which we are having a formal presence. If you know of other events that might be fun for Navigators, please let us know, and we will advertise them and add them to our calendar.

June: Camping/Rock Climbing
We have tentative plans to camp somewhere with rock climbing options, perhaps in Southern Illinois. No details have been set.

June 12-18: Camp Quest Add-On
Camp Quest is a “place for fun, friends and freethought for kids ages 8 to 17. We provide a traditional sleepaway summer camp experience with a wide range of activities, including sports, crafts, games, swimming and campfires.” If you had experience with a sleep-away church camp and wish your children could have the same experience except replacing the religious message with “critical thinking, ethics, scientific inquiry, philosophy and comparative religion”, this is the place for you. Camp Quest is open for children ages 8-17.

Camp Quest Kansas City will be running June 12-18 at Wildwood Outdoor Education Center in La Cygne, KSi. We do not expect this to be an official Ethical Navigators event, but we view this as a “Super Add-On.”

Camp Quest is only $450 for a full week of sleep-away camp. Let us know if you have any questions, and we will try to facilitate this as much as possible. Registration closes May 1.

July: Camping/Float Trip
Our outing for July will be be another float-trip camping weekend, likely at Meramec State Park, where we went in July 2014 and 2015. A specific weekend has not been chosen.

General Meetings
April 17
Today, we learned a variety of camping skills at our General Meeting, as Mr. Heck taught the principles of Leave No Trace, and Ms. Pepper taught about water purification (including tasting water with iodine in it).

We ended the meeting by playing two Native American games.

Photos are available on Facebook.

May 15
Our May General Meeting will be at 9:45 am on May 15 at the Ethical Society.

April Council Meeting
Our next Council meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am on April 24 in the Nursery School Green Room. All are welcome to observe and comment.
