Once a year the Ethical Society of St. Louis honors a person or an organization for outstanding work in improving the human condition. The Society gives its Ethics in Action Award to an individual or group in the St. Louis community that has provided courageous and dedicated service to maintaining the rights and dignity of their fellow human beings in some aspect of life – religious, social, political, economic, medical, educational, ecological, recreational, and artistic. This year’s award will be presented on October 15, 2015 and carries an honorarium of $2,000.00.
The annual Ethics in Action award was formerly called the Ethical Humanist of the Year award. It was established in 1975 by the late James S. McDonnell. Since that time, the award has been given to honor an eclectic group of people associated with diverse issues or causes. Some of the honorees have received little previous recognition for their work while others are well known locally.
