. . . and now Vermont!

Vermont has legalized same-sex marriage!–overriding the governor’s veto with a 100-to-49 vote. The overwhelming vote is a tremendous victory, especially since it shows an understanding that separate-but-equal civil unions are not an acceptable alternative.

Last weekend I spoke with many high school students at a local gay-straight alliance conference, and the recent marriage news gives me hope that they will see America become a country of equality. If we keep working, perhaps those of us who are older will too.
