History of the Tuesday Women's Association
The Tuesday Women's Association, as it is known today, had its roots in the Women's Auxiliary of the Ethical Society of St. Louis. One major project of the Auxiliary was an annual bazaar. In 1955-1956, demands of that event became too great for the Auxiliary, and the Society's Planning and Advisory Committee asked Robin Jones to chair an all-society bazaar, which proved most successful. Eleanor Frasure, with Robin's assurance of continued help and support, took over as chair of the Auxiliary in 1957 and maintained that position for the next six or seven years. Simultaneously, Robin and Eleanor invited women to join them in making projects for the bazaar. Meetings were held at Robin's home, then at other homes, and finally, at the new society building on Clayton Road. This small group of six to eight people met at the same time as the by now smaller Auxiliary, and in 1966, the two groups officially joined forces as the Tuesday Women's Association of the Ethical Society of St. Louis. Robin Jones was the first president. As with the original Women's Auxiliary, Tuesday Women's Association members find that their studies, discussions, and work toward common goals lead to their greatest rewards--loyal friends and great fellowship.
