Young people in grades 9 -12 meet in their own designated space here at the Ethical Society every Sunday morning from 10am until 12pm from mid-September through mid-May.
As members of the Youth Group, teens offer each other a safe, respectful, and confidential environment where they can freely discuss and explore topics that are relevant and important to them.
While the group is youth led, an adult advisor is always on-site to help guide the discussions and projects as needed. This year, we are deeply grateful for Becky Edwards' and Ellen Wright's willingness to take those reins.
Youth Group members work together to organize service activities, fundraisers, and wonderfully creative events that have become traditions here at the Ethical Society. A highlight of each year is the annual conference with other Ethical Humanist teens from around the country called the Y.E.S. Conference (Youth of Ethical Societies).
Many of the teens have been members of this community for years already and find themselves comfortably grounded in the Ethical Society's core values. However, this is also a time when we tend to welcome a good number of newcomers to the group.
We hope that they'll find room to think, room to examine and thoughtfully question the assumptions they may have inherited. Together, youth group teens tend to exercise an inspiring capacity to think critically and act ethically.
