The Ethical Society of St. Louis is always looking for volunteers to participate in various social service groups, the Board of Trustees, and various committees.
Social Service Groups:
- Ambassadors This group exists to help welcome new members by helping them meet people and make connections. The Ambassadors host dinner parties in their homes.
- Chorus The Chorus of the Ethical Society meets weekly and performs at some of the Sunday Platforms and at the Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Festivals. The Chorus also participates in the Music Festival held in the spring.
- Greeters The purpose of our Sunday morning Greeters is to provide a team of volunteers who greet attendees as they arrive for the Sunday morning Platform meeting.
- Ushers Ushers are responsible for handing out programs, helping people be seated inside the auditorium prior to 11:00 a.m., counting audience members, taking the collection, totaling the collection and making deposits.
- Visitors' Open House — Host The Ethical Society needs volunteers to host Visitors' Open House after Platform each Sunday. Visitors' Open House is a friendly, 30-minute introduction to the Ethical Society for curious visitors. VOH is a great way to help welcome new people.
Board and Committees:
- Aesthetics Committee This committee maintains and improves the aesthetic values of our facility on all aspects of decor and landscaping.
- Art Committee The purpose of the Art Committee is to produce Art exhibits at the society gallery six to seven times a year and to provide an outreach to the community through these exhibits as well through the sponsorship of the Meet The Artists program once a year.
- Board of Trustees The Board of Trustees is responsible for all matters of Society policy and planning, and for the management and allocation of Society resources including all staff, facilities and finances.
- Building and Grounds Committee This committee was established to assure the soundness of the building and its systems; to maintain the grounds and retain and improve the aesthetic values of the facility; and to initiate changes necessary to improve the efficiency and utility of the facility.
- Committee of Concern The purpose of the Committee of Concern is to be aware of society members who are ill or who have a need for support.
- e-Society Committee This committee is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the St. Louis Ethical Society's web site: http://www.ethicalstl.org.
- Ethical Education Committee The purpose of the Ethical Education Committee is to support and direct children's ethical education, and to provide support to the Ethical Society of St. Louis Sunday School.
- Executive Committee The Executive Committee is chaired by the President and composed of the Officers of the Society. It has the power to act on matters that require action between regular meetings of the Board.
- Finance Committee The Finance Committee is responsible for all aspects of managing and protecting the financial resources of the Society.
- Fundraising Committee This committee develops plans for and promotes new and existing fundraising activities.
- Humanist of the Year Award Committee The Humanist of the Year Committee exists to solicit nominations for this annual award, to evaluate all supporting materials, to select the award recipient, and to organize the Humanist Sunday ceremony and luncheon.
- Membership Committee The purpose of the Membership Committee is to create and implement services to welcome, inform, educate, recognize, integrate and support society members -- prospective, new and current.
- Music Committee The Music Committee acts as a support for the music program and our Music Director, and as a conduit between the membership and the music program.
- Personnel Committee The Personnel Committee serves to represent the Society in formulating staff policy, to serve in an advisory capacity to the Leader and the Head of Staff, and to serve as a resource for employees in the event of a conflict.
- Platform Speaker Committee The Platform Speaker Committee was formed to provide assistance to the Leader in obtaining speakers for the Sunday morning Platform.
- Program Advisory Committee This committee advises and supports the Program Director in providing opportunities for members to share, learn, and grow in relation to oneself, the Society, and the larger community.
- Program Council The Program Council is responsible for the management and coordination of the programs and services to be offered by the Society to its members and the community at large.
